Together, we can help kids across Canada embrace a healthier, more active life

GoodLife Kids Foundation envisions a Canada where ALL KIDS have the opportunity to benefit from an active life – regardless of socioeconomic status.

We strive to inspire parents, teachers, coaches, mentors and corporate partners to deliver the message to kids, that being active is not only good for their body and mind – but also lots of fun!

We do more than get the message out – we take ACTION! Every year, our granting program supports physical activity and health programs in local communities across Canada. Role models on the front line work tirelessly in their communities inspiring kids to get active. Our website is a valuable resource to share new ideas and expertise in physical fitness and healthy eating.

Inspiring kids today creates an active, healthy tomorrow. VISIT www.goodlifekids.com to find out how YOU can help.

Today one in every 90 children in Canada is diagnosed with autism.

Autistic children often exist in a world of isolation, unable to relate to the people around them or enjoy the routines we all take for granted for our children-going to school, playing with friends, telling their parents they love them.

But there is hope! The Kilee Patchell-Evans Autism Research Group, under the direction of Dr. Derrick MacFabe was founded in 2003 with funding provided by David Patchell-Evans. Now that commitment has grown to a personal donation of over $3 million. The team continues to unfold important new findings that are receiving global attention. Recognized by the Canadian Medical Association in 2007 with its Medal of Honour, David Patchell-Evans and Dr. MacFabe continue to build collaborations between scientists and concerned citizens around the world.

Official Charity Pledge Program

The GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon is proud to continue a partnership project started in 2005 with several local, provincial and national charities.

We have selected 18 charities to participate in the 2010 charity pledge program.

The charities are participating in partnership with our event to raise awareness of the individual causes and raise the dollars needed through the collection of pledges.

We are very thankful to have Al Ferraby from C-FAX 1070 as our honorary chair and are excited that he will be participating in the half marathon on 10-10-10.

Every dollar counts. You don't have to be a participant in the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon in order to collect pledges. Anyone can collect pledges. Our goal this year is to assist the charities in raising more than $250,000.

Once you choose your charity of choice or you would like to find out more information about the charities and to receive a pledge package, you can contact the specific charity directly as listed below.

Note: Each participant must register for the race they are going to run or walk as well as registering with their charity of choice to be part of their charity team. When you are registering for the race, choose the charity name from the open or master team dropdown boxes.

Donate to your charity right now! You may not want to collect pledges but you want to donate. You can do this by choosing your charity and clicking on the Donate Now! button.

Add meaning to your race day experience. Run for a charity. It’s easy to get involved, simply choose a charity, and they’ll provide you with all of the tools and support to get you started! 100 percent of all pledges collected go directly to the charity.

Good luck in your fundraising (and training) and thank you for helping to make a difference!

Sincerely,

Cathy Noel

You can be a super hero. Participate or donate at the 2010 GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon and help make a difference in the life of a child or youth.

In 2009, 649 children and youth in communities from Sooke to Salt Spring Island reached out to Big Brothers Big Sisters to ask for help from a mentor. While every family’s story is different, we know that mentoring makes a positive difference for every child.

Children and youth with positive mentors and role models are more likely to stay in school, succeed at school, strengthen relationships with peers and adults, and to be less involved in negative risk-taking.

A trained mentor meets with a child once per week for a minimum of one-year to enhance a child’s confidence and self-esteem, build resiliency, provide new problem solving skills, and offer new experiences, opportunities, and potential for success at home, at school, and in life. Mentors and children are supported and monitored throughout their mentoring match and provided with training, tools, and referrals. The average mentoring match lasts 14 months. The positive impact of mentoring lasts for a lifetime.

You can help change the life of a child and you don’t have to change your own life. Your donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters will help provide 100 new mentors to children and youth in 2011.

When a child first goes missing, the police, the media and the community all rally together to help the terrified and grieving family search for their child, but as time goes by, that involvement gradually decreases, leaving the family to continue the search…alone.

It is for these families that the Missing Children Society of Canada was established in 1986. Since that time, our unique and comprehensive search program called Project: Reunite has assisted police and searching families in the active and ongoing search for missing children. Our investigators have closed over 1,600 cases since 1986 – that’s an average of 70 a year – and have assisted law enforcement in over 6,000 cases.

MCSC employs a team of in-house investigators to search for missing children. Our approach incorporates frontline, hands-on investigative and search activities. This active methodology is the foundation of Project: Reunite and distinguishes us from other organizations with similar mandates.

All funds raised through the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon will support MCSC’s search programs. For more information about joining our team or making a pledge, please contact us at www.mcsc.ca.
